Sustainable Meat Sources

Eatwild's Directory of Farms is a comprehensive source for grass-fed meat and dairy products in the United States and Canada. Producers listed on Eatwild assure  their animals and the land are well-treated and  that their products are exceptionally high in nutrition and free of antibiotics and added hormones.

The Local Harvest website lets you find farmers' markets, family farms, and other sources of sustainably grown food in your area, where you can buy grass-fed meats as well as produce. The Eat Well Guide offers a similar search tool that includes coffee shops, restaurants, bakers, butchers, caterers, co-ops, and personal chefs.

Certified Humane is a nonprofit organization created to improve the lives of farm animals by setting rigorous standards, conducting annual inspections, and certifying their humane treatment. Their website has a search tool that includes stores and restaurants.

Wild Planet Foods specializes in sustainably caught wild seafood.

The Blue Ocean Institute offers a comprehensive seafood guide on which fish is safe to consume and which species are in danger of being over-fished.

Novy Ranches was established by Dr. Lowell Novy, a veterinarian whose interests in conservation and animal welfare  influenced his decision to turn away from “traditional” feedlot cattle production by developing an entirely grass-fed  program that is healthy for the land, cows and people.
